Do you ever have days where you wish you could quit real life and travel the world? That’s totally my day today (and possibly every other day). I’ve also decided to blame the world Olympics for my current obsession.

Decor // Moxiedoll Hand Embroidery

I may have ranted about this once or twice before, but I’m not a huge embroidery fan until someone like Moxiedoll comes around  and helps me up on the fence. It’s definitely the witty quotes and modern graphics that she substitutes for the stereotypical bunnies in fields and Aunt Dorothy’s cats. Honestly, wouldn’t the “I’ll eat you up, I love you so.” make the cutest gift?

Never Take Yourself Too Seriously

DIY ikat vanity tray

Powering out DIY’s is basically the name of the game here at S+C.  Although sometimes I need a healthy reminder not to take myself too seriously, which was a dose that came along with this DIY ikat vanity tray* that I made. What I’m hinting towards is that not every project turns out pretty, or how I would hope for it to be, and I’m learning that that’s okay. You win some, and you lose some. And the losses seem to come when you take it a little too serious! Do you ever have these moments? I think they’re also cured by ice cream, but I’ll know for sure momentarily.

*You know you tried when you’re typing a post with one gold hand! :)

Sometimes I have moments when I stumble across something really cool that makes me wonder if I live in the wrong city, especially among the blogosphere. Today though, we can all breathe a deep sigh of relief because Poketo, the downtown L.A. gem, has graced the rest of us non-Californians with an online store. Thank goodness. Here are some of my favorites –

DIY // Graphic Heart Tee

simple DIY heart tee shirt

There are certain crafts supplies that don’t like me. One of those is dye. Maybe it’s just the fact that I’m somewhat of a messy crafter, but I’d prefer to believe that it’s just the unforgiving nature of dye in general. Either way, I found the perfect solution to my dye troubles with Tumble Dye. It’s still a permanent color once it’s set but it’s water based so you can easily fix mistakes (or splatters), and that’s what I like to call the beginning of a long relationship. This graphic heart tee was a must-try project after my fabric dye discovery–

You will need:

  • Plain tee
  • Tumble Dye spray in your choice of color
  • Clear adhesive shelf liner
  • Sisscors
  • Magazine
  • Iron

First, put the magazine inside the shirt so the spray doesn’t bleed through. Measure and cut the size heart that you want from the adhesive liner. Stick the liner to the shirt where you’d like the graphic, and then spray several thin coats of tumble dye. Wipe of the excess dye from the liner (so that it doesn’t get on your shirt when you peel the liner away). Wait until the heart is dry, peel the liner off, and iron! Also, Tumble Dye is washable, so if you make a mistake you can correct it with just a wet towel, it doesn’t set until you heat it.

Cute, don’t you think? Simple graphic tees are definitely my summer staple!
