I’ve been on the hunt for some unique glassware for cocktail posts for a while now. Every time I find something I love, there’s either only one glass or it’s a set that’s overly expensive.

So when Chambord asked us to add a touch of odd luxury to a holiday DIY, I knew just what to make! Alas, I ended up with this quirky and fun DIY Metallic Patterned Glassware made with permanent gold vinyl.

At first I thought I wanted to do all retro starbursts, but then I got a little frisky with the scissors and made some abstract geo versions that I ended up liking even better!

The vinyl I found makes them feel super upscale. So I got a little carried away with making a ton of them. Because why not?!

How To Make DIY Metallic Patterned Glassware

I used an electronic paper cutting machine to cut out the intricate starburst designs. But you can also find them precut online as well.

Just make sure you buy permanent vinyl so that you can still handwash the glassware without it coming off!

All you have you do is peel and stick your designs sporadically across your glassware. After 72 hours, the adhesive will fully seal.

You can definitely scrape it back off if you work at it. But be careful with it, it’s fully permanent.

For the geo versions, I just cut imperfect rectangles from the vinyl and stuck them on in various sizes around the glass.

Then, I added a few more touches with two or three gold circles. I love the way these turned out!

  1. This glassware is awesome and I love that I can make it myself! You’re absolutely right about fancy pieces like this being super expensive and hard to find, so I’m sure that I’ll be able to impress a few people on my gift list with this diy project. :D
