It’s been an eventful few weeks around here, and having the second round of sold out workshops with Laura Hooper Calligraphy over the weekend made for a pretty break in our long string of construction work from building out the new studio. Unfortunately we weren’t able to get things finished enough to have the class in the new Sugar & Cloth studio, but the lovely ladies that own the bakery and cafe below our new space also have a studio for events that they kindly let us use (thank goodness!!!), on the other side of the building and it turned out just as nice!
We had the same setup for the morning and afternoon class, and I loved every detail, but especially the florals from Jennifer Laura Design that really pulled the urban space together…
Believe it or not, I actually don’t survive on cookies and cake alone. For my behind the scenes meals I do tend to try and include more than one food group and protein here and there. I know, I know, I’m shocked too. One thing I don’t like to compromise on though, is flavor and a token cute factor, and Pondicheri on West Ave has plenty of both! I mean, how amazing are these flowing, patterned shears dividing the juice bar and dining area? I’m in love!
For those of you that just so happen to be in this for the sugar part of Sugar & Cloth, don’t worry, this mountain of pastries should tide you over…
After letting my local posts dwindle down over a year ago and then getting three email requests from readers of places to go in Houston, I’ve decided it’s due time to bring them back. Mostly I’m doing this as a good excuse to go shopping and out to eat, but also as an act of kindness to those who dare to read my two page email replies (super sorry about that!).
First up, Saint Cloud. No worries for those of you who can’t experience their punched metal gold awning and honeycomb lighting that dreams are made of, because they also have an online shop here. For the locals that are familiar, Saint Cloud is in Rice Village, just across from your second must-stop (and soon to be feature), Cloud 10 ice cream…
In case you’ve ever wondered if I frantically squeal over pretty things in real life like I do with you here on Sugar & Cloth, this is your chance to see it in person… I’ll be hosting the local Etsy pop-up at West Elm on March 29th! I’ve picked out some of my favorite Houston based shops like Kari Breitigam, HattonHenry, Tiny Deer Studio and more, plus snacks from Sweet and music by Gracie Chavez. I mean, does it really get any better than a Saturday with a frantic Ashley, a store full of cute things, and a macaron or twelve? I think not!
Be sure to RSVP here on Facebook so we know who to introduce ourselves to! In the meantime, pack your lunch these next few weeks to save some extra pennies, you’ll thank me on March 29th!
