Sure, anyone can stop and grab a couple of Dunkin’ Donuts hot chocolates (I know my East Coast friends know allll about this!) for coworkers, but only a true office favorite will take it to the next level with accompanying them with this homemade Dunkin’ Donuts hot chocolate icing recipe! The toasted marshmallows on top may be optional, but the fact that you will officially become the fan favorite is definitely not.
Okay, okay, so clearly I’m bias on the awesomeness of this frosting recipe, but a little DD in my life just makes me happy. Plus, today is National Hot Chocolate Day, so why not share the love!?…
You can really use any base of cake you’d like for these cupcakes, but I always use my mom’s classic chocolate cake recipe for cupcakes, too. I think it keeps the balanced flavor of the hot chocolate throughout, but I think these would be just as good with a dark chocolate base if you’re looking for something less sweet!
Ingredients for Dunkin’ Donuts Hot Chocolate Frosting:
- 1/3 cup of softened butter
- 1/3 cup of Dunkin’ Donuts Original Hot Chocolate
- 1lb. of powdered sugar
- marshmallows for garnishing (optional)
With a mixer, beat together the butter and powdered sugar until creamy. Pour in the 1/3 cup of Dunkin’ Donuts Hot Chocolate and mix until fluffly!
If the mixture is too thick, you can add a dash more hot chocolate, or if it’s too thin, add a bit more powdered sugar and stir.
I’ve also found that my new favorite trick for icing cupcakes is just by using an ice cream scoop! Once your cupcakes have completely cooled, scoop some frosting on and top with marshmallows.
You’re welcome to go rushing to the nearest Dunkin’ Donuts to make these on this lazy Sunday, but you can always use Valentine’s Day or…winter in general…for a good excuse to deliver some hot chocolate happiness.
