We’re finally back from Florida, but we still have open doors, oceans breezes, and patio dinners on the mind!

We realize it may be a little chilly most places.

But maybe if we start prepping for spring soirees the sunshine will come?

We’ll take one for the team and go first, starting with the DIY Brushstroke Coasters and a few simple ideas for entertaining with paper plates… the classy way.

This is one of our favorite air dry clay projects.

We feel like we can speak on the topic of paper plates pretty professionally considering we’ve been working on mastering them for last 20 years.

Just recently have we come to realize that mixing your paper plates with a few statement serveware pieces makes the biggest difference in the world.

Our method —  use paper plates for the biggest portion, and the real stuff for the things that can be cleaned up quickly or tossed in the dishwasher all at once.

It’s tried and true, we tell ya!

We’ve also been on a big Cheeky Home kick because a) I’ll buy anything colorful from Target (let’s be honest), and b) they give a meal to a person in need every time you purchase a Cheeky product, and we’re 150% into that…

How to Make DIY Brushstroke Coasters

1 — Roll out a chunk of air dry clay onto a clean smooth surface.

Make sure the clay is an even width throughout (so that your coasters lay evenly).

2 — Use the biscuit cutter to cut circles out of the clay. Remove the excess from around the edges.

3 — Let it dry completely for 24-48 hours.

4– Once the clay is completely dry, you can paint the coasters with craft paint the colors of your choice.

We did a white base coat, and then mixed various colors of pink to go with our table setting.

For the brushstroke look, making quick strokes randomly with an almost dry paint brush to get the clean brushstroke effect.

We recreated this design in our free DIY Gold Foil Wall Art Printable.

4 — Let the paint dry and then add a coat of clear mod podge to the tops and edges of each coaster to help them withstand water and wear and tear a bit better.

Styling Tips

Obviously you can make these year round.

But we love the punch of color they add for a spring time palette!

For another paper plate styling trick, stack different shapes and sized plates for a layered look with disposable wear to make it sturdier and a bit more interesting on the table!

How are you all bringing the sunshine in?

All we know is that we are SUPER pumped to see Daylight Savings Time come around again.

We need sunlight past 6pm!

Mostly for procrastinating on pictures, but what the heck, po-tayt-o/po-tot-o.
