It seems the summer weekends are always booked with BBQs and patio hangouts. And I couldn’t be happier about it! Anything involving food and friends sounds perfect to me. 

I, Anusha love entertaining friends and these DIY Mini Colorful Cheese Boards will definitely come in handy for all those booked weekends.

The sweet mini size is great for serving an assortment of cheese, nuts and crackers for friends to nibble away.

The best part is that these cheese boards are lightweight and colorful unlike concrete platters.

Materials And Tools Needed To DIY Mini Colorful Cheese Boards

Cardboard boxes — Circle, square and rectangle shapes

Nail polish or bottle caps

Vaseline

Plaster of Paris

Powdered paint pigment

Plastic container

Measuring cup

Popsicle sticks

Fine grit Sandpaper

Suede lace — Optional

How To Make DIY Mini Colorful Cheese Boards

Apply a thin layer of vaseline to the inside of the cardboard box and the bottle cap.

This will make it easier to remove the plaster once it’s dried. Use a paper towel if needed to wipe off any excess vaseline. 

Place the bottle cap in the cardboard box where you’d like a hole to be.

Prepare the plaster according to package instructions.

For one small cheese board, I mixed about 1 cup of plaster, 1/4 cup of pigment powder and a 1/2 cup of cold water.

Just a note: once the plaster has dried, the color will be much lighter.

 Stir the mixture using a popsicle stick. It should have the consistency of paint or slightly thicker.

Slowly pour the plaster into the cardboard box.

Tap the box gently on a flat surface to bring any air bubbles to the surface. 

Set it aside and allow it to dry overnight. 

Once dry, remove the bottle cap gently.

Then, tear the cardboard box apart or flip it upside down and tap it until the cheese board falls out. 

 

Lightly sand the cheese board.

Clean off the plaster dust, add a little wax paper and you’re ready to go! 

You can also add some suede lace as a cute touch to finish everything it all off!
