I’m a huge fan of making your own body scrub. Case in point: I’ve already made variations of my own here and here.

Which is exactly why I’m so excited to be sharing the details on this Organic DIY Citrus Sugar Scrub!

Three reasons to make your own? Sugar scrubs are all natural. You can make generous quantities.

And keeping your skin healthy shouldn’t cost you the arm you’re exfoliating. Have I convinced you yet? I thought so!

This is the recipe below that I came up with for a citrus infused summer Organic DIY  Citrus Sugar Scrub. It’s sweet, zesty, and will keep you beach ready 24/7.

Juice your lemon and lime. Combine the coconut and peppermint oils with all of the moist ingredients.

Then, add the sugar and lemon and lime peels as a garnish.

Stir. And you’re set! You can also keep a jar and spoon next to the sink for summer guests!

How To Store Homemade Sugar Scrub

Store your sugar scrubs in an airtight container at room temperature for a longer shelf life.

Over time, the sugar and oil may separate. This is completely normal! Simply remix the sugar scrub with your finger.

If you want to leave the scrub in the shower, choose a waterproof container also. We do recommend that you store sugar scrubs on the counter away from water.

Because this all natural DIY sugar scrub does not contain any water, it requires no preservatives.

But any contact of water can cause your sugar scrub to eventually mold. And because sugar is involved, you want a sturdy container to also keep ants away!

  4. While using this scrub what’s the best lotion to use for the skin because I really need a scrub that will lighten up my skin and remove dead kind cell.. Thanks.

    • Hi Grace! We’re not exactly sure about scrubs and lotions that lighten skin. If you want something to remove dead skin, then a scrub like this would be better than lotion to exfoliate. Honestly, good ole CeraVe is a great lotion. It’s also great for people with eczema. We do like Earth Tu Face. We also recommend exfoliating gloves or brushes. Hope this helps!

  7. This sounds absolutely amazing. I’d like to make some for my mother for Mother’s Day. However, she is not a fan of coconut scent. Can I substitute olive oil in for the coconut oil???

  8. This is awesome! I just made it, and like a couple other people said, it turned out a bit runny, so I just added more sugar. This is my first time making my own body product so I’m so excited to use this! Thanks for posting this!

  10. This sounds amazing! I own a spa in a little beach town and I think this will be our new signature scrub! Question: how long is the shelf life of this? Do I need to keep refrigerated? Thanks so much!! Can’t wait to try it out!!

    • So awesome! If you leave out the mint leaves and peels and just add a touch of them as you’re about to use scrub, then it will last quite a while. It doesn’t need to be refrigerated :) Good luck!

  11. How long does this last? It looks perfect as part of a gift I’m planning, but it would have to survive being shipped and then sat under a Christmas tree for a few weeks before even getting used. Thanks!

Now if I don’t exfoliate at least twice a week, my skin feels dull and dirty. It truly is amazing to see the difference in your complexion. Ever priced the ones in the store??? Too expensive and will never smell as nice as Ashley’s homemade scrubs. Lemon is one of my favorite scents.
