Let’s be real; we all know that we’re extra.
So with that running reputation, we obviously have to go big when it comes to Christmas decorations for the holidays.
In this case, we’re talking about really big outdoor Christmas door decorations!
As it turns out, there aren’t a lot of classy lawn decorations that come in our preferred color schemes.
So we decided to make our own with a little online craft supply shopping, elbow grease, and spray paint.
When it comes to anything jumbo or intricate, spray paint is our weapon of choice, especially for making Christmas crafts that come together much more quickly.
(See here and here for proof).

Materials and Tools for DIY Wood Lights Christmas Garland
You can make two versions of these outdoor Christmas door decorations.
One that can be used as wooden stakes in the ground to use as yard decor OR string onto a garland for a festive Christmas garland entrance.
The supplies you’ll need are:
Wooden rings — For the lightbulb tops
Wooden squares — For the lightbulb tops
Large wooden ovals — You could also cut these yourself for custom sizes. This method is also much more budget-friendly!
Krylon Paint + Primer Gloss Banner Red — For the lightbulb
Krylon Paint + Primer Matte Aqua — For the lightbulb
Krylon Paint + Primer Matte Modern White — For the lightbulb
Krylon Shimmer Metallic in Gold Shimmer — For the lightbulb top
Gold 1″ wood screws — You’ll need two screws for every jumbo ornament.
Wooden stakes — Optional if you’re making the yard ornament version
Ribbon — Optional
*Be sure to always follow the safety instructions on the back of your spray paint can, and use the products in a well-ventilated area.
How to Make DIY Outdoor Christmas Door Decorations
Step 1 — To make the tops of the “light bulbs,” glue a wooden ring in between two wooden squares and let dry completely.
Step 2 — Spray two coats of spray paint on all sides.
We sprayed the bulb tops in Shimmer Metallic in Gold Shimmer,
Then, let them dry completely in between.
Step 3 — Next, spray two coats on all sides of your wooden ovals.
We alternated between Gloss Banner Red, Matte Aqua, and Matte Modern White.
Allow drying.
Step 4 — Once fully dry, glue one end of the wooden ovals in between the two wooden squares from the golden bulb tops.
Let dry again.
Step 5 — Using a drill and two wooden screws, be sure to reinforce the bottom two corners of the wooden square by drilling it into the plaque.
This will make sure they’re nice and sturdy for hanging in addition to the glue.
Do not skip this step!
Step 6 — If you’re making the yard ornament version of these outdoor Christmas door decorations, glue a wooden stake to the back of each finished bulb a few inches from the bottom so that they’ll stay securely in the ground.
If you’re hanging them on a garland, as we did for this entrance, use a twist tie to securely tie the bulb to the garland.
Now all you have to do is hope for snow!
Or, in our case, fake snow because this is Texas, after all.
