Little Sugar & Cloth: Introducing Gwen Emerson!

We’re so over the moon in love with our new baby girl, Gwen Emerson! She was born January 19th, 2018 at 5:32 am weighing 7lbs, 12 ounces after exactly 41 weeks. We still can’t believe she’s ours!

I’d never been more anxious or nervous to meet someone in my entire life as I was to meet her — Would we be selfless enough to give her the love and discipline she needs and deserves? Would we be strong enough to let our pride go when the moments arise that we don’t know the answer? What would she be like? Would we bond automatically? There were so many thoughts running through my mind, but in that moment, it felt like the world paused just for the three of us and flooded us with an overwhelming love.

We’ve officially been home for 8 days now and are learning the groove of our new little family. We spend half the time wondering what the heck we’re doing, and the other half constantly staring at her ohh’ing and ahh’ing. We’re definitely running on VERY little sleep and are currently camped out in our living room turned newborn HQ thanks to my postpartum recovery not sitting too well with our two flights of stairs in our townhome.

This cute striped number was out coming home outfit after spending an extra day in the hospital for photo-therapy to make sure baby girl’s jaundice went away. I was also induced on the 18th because of her being overdue and the OB’s concern with them estimating her being on the larger side, but looking back she already looks so small compared to being just over a week old now!

I wish time would just stand still for us. Admittedly I’ve randomly cried over the thought of her growing up to fast at least three times since being home. I’ve also officially had my first middle of the night cry over being SO tired breastfeeding her through another cluster feed. At the same time, I wouldn’t want to be anywhere else!

She also LOVES her Daddy! This smile just makes me melt every single time. I can hardly stand. Instant iPhone homescreen material, haha!

Remember our recently really clean living room renovation? It’s now turned into a baby goods gallery, and we’ve been camping out together all week. I’ll be sharing move on her birth story and my postpartum recovery soon, but I’m definitely feeling on the up and up!

  2. Congratulations to you!! She is absolutely BEAUTIFUL!!! You guys are such a sweet little family! Hope you can squeeze some rest in! That’s the hardest part with newborns.. getting up in the middle of the night many, many times and wondering if you will ever get s full nights rest again! All their cuteness makes up for all the sleep loss tho!
