off on our next adventure to Italy, France, and Spain! - sugar and cloth - houston blogger - travel blogger

Off again on our next adventure with Princess Cruises!

This may seem crazy, and it totally feels crazy, but we’re off again on our next adventure! Life is kind of a blur right now in a really cool, slightly scary, fun, slightly chaotic kind of way. Basically I’m just a melting pot of emotions, ha!

We’re on our way to Spain getting ready to take off on a seven day cruise with Princess Cruises (super excited to partner with them again!), and then we’ll be exploring Italy for another few days after that. I figured if we’d already traveled this far (it’s my very first overseas flight!), we might as well milk it for a few extra days of Italy.

This trip was sort of a last minute thing that I decided to just go for, but it’s definitely going against my homebody instincts to be gone for so long right after our Mexico trip! Did you know I was homebody? It’s true. I can just fake it really well sometimes, haha.

We’ll be going on lots of fun excursion throughout Spain, France, and Italy during the cruise, and then for the extra week we’ll be seeing Venice, Florence/Tuscany, and Rome. I’m even getting to fulfill my lifelong Pinterest dream of seeing Cinque Terre in real life on one of the Princess Cruises excursions!

If you have any must-sees, must-eats, or must-dos in any of those cities, let us know! Right now we’re just kind of winging it! As always, you can follow along on our Snapchat (we’re sugarandcloth there!) for live videos of the trip, and IG for the photo adventures.

I’d love to ask for your prayers and good thoughts for safe travels and experiences while we’re gone, if you’d care to add us to your list. In the meantime, we’re wishing you a happy, long Memorial Day weekend, and a big happy birthday shoutout to my Mom. Love you, Mom!

How fun! I’ve lived in Florence for almost a year now.

    For gelato:
    – Edoardo (they make their own cones; cannella/cinnamon and vegan chocolate are especially incredible)
    – La Strega Nocciola (a new find of mind – love the dark chocolate with chili and white chocolate with cinnamon)
    – Gelateria dei Neri (absolutely MUST get salted caramel!!)
    – La Carraia (my favorites are coconut, nutella, pistachio)

    For pizza:
    – Gusta

    For panini:
    -All’antico Vinaio
-sandwichic (not as good as antico vinaio though)

    for dinner:
    – Trattoria la sostanza (bistecca, butter chicken)
    – L’Osteria di giovanni (bistecca with delicious potatoes!)
    – il contadino (amazing and delicious deal: for under 15 euro, get 1/4 liter of wine, a primo, secondo, and side dish)

Also check out the Central Market (both the downstairs market and upstairs food hall).

For one of the best (albeit expensive) cappuccino, go to the cafe at the Gucci Museum.

Be sure to visit PIazzale Michelangelo for a great view of the city, especially at susnet.

    Enjoy!

Rome: the best pizza you will eat in italy is at the Pizza Rustica Birreria near the trevi fountain. I recommend the caprese. mind blown

venice: our tour guide became our friend and showed us his favorite places to eat. try the Antica Besseta (celery gelato is a specialty)

florence: wonderful outdoor restaurant for people watching and soaking up sunshine: francesco vini

How exciting! Great itinerary… Not sure if one of your stops is Barcelona, but I recommend Boadas Cocktails. It’s one of the oldest cocktail bars in the city, opened in 1933 not far off the Ramblas. Art deco style with the bar staff in tuxedos.

In Rome, the Piazza Navona is just gorgeous. You can pick up some bites on the way and have a picnic by the fountain. It can get pretty packed though.

You will love Cinque Terre! We just got back a few months ago ( we live in northern Italy). I wrote a blog post about our favorite spots — we stayed in Manarola.

I would definitely hike from Monterosso to Vernazza (the views of Vernazza are incredible!), but just know that the hike from Manarola to Riomaggiore is closed — bummer, because that’s the easy one, haha!

Here’s my round-up. Have a lovely time and eat all the pasta! Make sure you have something with pesto in Cinque Terre — that’s the regional specialty.

    YOU WILL LOVE CINQUE TERRE!

Oh, and if you need references for Florence/Tuscany, check out the blog Girl in Florence. She’s an ex-pat that lives in Florence and she gives great restaurant recommendations and tips!

  • My best advice, is to BEFRIEND your fellow texas cruisers, and never let go!!! xoxoxo
