Spicy Skinny Margarita Recipe

This Spicy Skinny Margarita recipe is a low-calorie version of the well-loved jalapeño margarita cocktail. It only requires a few ingredients, and of course, the best tequila!

It’s been a while since we shared a classic cocktail recipe around here! Fear not, this Spicy Skinny Margarita recipe should reaffirm our dedication to the craft of cocktails, with or without Cinco de Mayo.

We’re whipping up the deliciousness that is this Spicy Skinny Margarita for two reasons. Number one being swimsuit season is upon us. (Please send help.) And number two because there is nothing better than sips with a little kick!

Okay okay, the real reason we prefer a spicy margarita recipe is simply because it keeps us sipping instead of totally chug my glass. At least we’re honest, right?

In our defense, we don’t drink any type of sodas (usually only water, coffee, green juices,…and cocktails of course). So they’re our drink treat of choice. Plus, you can easily customize this into a mocktail too!

If you’re not a big fan of spicy drinks, you can nix the jalapeno and rock the rest of the recipe! It will run you about 100 calories per servings if you’re using stevia or light agave nectar instead of simple syrup.

I love the stevia option for a naturally sweetened, low carb drink.

What is a Skinny Margarita?

In case you’re trying to figure out why in the world you would change a good thing (aka a classic margarita recipe), here are a few reasons why…

Not everyone handles the sugar that sometimes comes along with a frozen margarita and even some of the top-shelf margaritas on the rocks.

If you’re prone to headaches or easy hangovers, this is a much more natural, healthy cocktail option since it’s primarily freshly squeezed lime juice and fresh orange juice over ice cubes.

It probably goes without saying, but these will also run you a fraction of the calories too! It’s definitely a diet-friendly option if you’re looking to indulge without the extra calorie intake.

Of course, you don’t HAVE to give up your favorite orange liqueur or triple sec if you really want it! You can just scale back on the amount you add to your cocktail shaker since the stevia will balance the flavor.

How to Garnish a Skinny Spicy Margarita

It’s all in the details, right?! When it comes to garnishing your skinny margarita, you can keep things healthy by using pink Himalayan salt and a lime wedge in lieu of a traditional salted rim.

All you have to do is pour a bit of salt on a plate, then run a lime wedge around the rim of your glass and dip in the salt.

You’ll pour your cocktail straight into the garnished glass, and serve with an extra lime wedge, and in this glass, a slice of jalapeno.

What’s the Best Tequila for Margaritas?

Regardless of whether you’re making a classic margarita, a spicy skinny margarita, or a frozen margarita mix, you can never go wrong with choosing the best quality tequila.

That also doesn’t exactly mean this is going to be a Patron margarita either. We’re a big fan of silver tequilas for their smoothness. We used it to create our festive Easter Margarita also.

If you’re looking for the best tequila on a budget, you should try out Jose Cuervo’s Tradicional Plata Silver Tequila or Espolon Silver Tequila

An Easy Skinny Margarita Pitcher Recipe

When you’re in the middle of hosting a party, it’s not always ideal to make a single cocktail at a time…obviously!

To make this into the best margarita recipe for a group, try these adjustments — 4.5 cups of silver tequila, 2 cups of light orange juice, 1 cup of freshly squeezed lime juice, and Stevia to sweeten.

You can mix all of the ingredients in a pitcher in the refrigerator until ready to serve. It’s best to have a separate ice bucket for guests to pour a drink themselves as they’re ready so that the pitcher doesn’t get watered down.

Another recipe you might want to try for a big crowd is this Mojito Pitcher Recipe.
