We’re Officially Homeowners!

And we’re FREAKING OUT excited! Honestly I thought it was going to be a loooong time before we could announce that we’re officially homeowners. Luckily the stars aligned, and here we are! The best part is we don’t even have to move!

Yes, I know, super confusing. Long story short is that I signed up for a really sketchy site that let’s you get emails for people, and then blindly emailed our landlord (that we’ve never met, we’ve only ever gone through a property manager for our town home!) asking if he would sell to us. We really love the location and feel at home here, and decided that it couldn’t hurt to try. Based on mortgage calculators and the current market, we wouldn’t be paying anything different than what we were already paying in rent.

On top of that we’ve done a lot to this little home! Granted there are major things we’ve wanted to do from the get-go— like tear out the old carpet from it being a bare-bones rental unit, replace the bottom of the barrel appliances, and switch out the lights, etc.

After emailing the owner, we finally heard back a few months later. After some back and forth he agreed to sell it to us for a great price! If you’ve been reading the blog for a while, you might already know that I felt like I would never own a home. Honestly, it even felt like that a few times these last few months. I might as well have given all of our bank logins out like business candy to our broker. Just kidding. But it did feel that way at times!

See, Jared and I have incomes from one young, little start-up called Sugar & Cloth. Though we’re fair tax payers and work our butts off, lenders don’t like when both borrowing parties rely on the same source of income. Luckily we both have good credit, had enough money squirreled away for a downpayment, and are freaking bound and determined like no other. Mainly me. Ain’t no body gonna tell me I can’t do something! Okay, that’s not really true for everything, but darned close to it, and this was one of them!

ANYWAYS, here we are! After a month and half of back and forth, and almost losing an arm to signing papers, we’re homeowners! I’m super excited to dive into renovations and share the process with you all! This is the best Christmas present so far! Now fingers crossed nothing breaks in the next month, haha..
