Equipment

Ingredients

For a single cocktail:

  • 3 oz golden rum preferably a golden spiced rum
  • 2 oz fresh orange juice
  • 2 oz pineapple juice
  • 1 oz fresh lime juice
  • 2 tsp grenadine
  • 1 splash Angostura bitters
  • 1 pinch freshly grated nutmeg

For a punch:

  • 3 cup rum preferably a golden spiced rum
  • 2 cup fresh orange juice
  • 2 cup pineapple juice
  • 1 cup fresh lime juice
  • 1/2 cup grenadine
  • 1 1/2 tbsp Angostura bitters
  • 1 tbsp freshly grated nutmeg

Instructions

For a single cocktail:

  • In the cocktail shaker with ice cubes, add in the rum, fruit juices, 1 teaspoon of grenadine and a pinch of grated nutmeg.
  • Close the cocktail shaker and shake well for 1 minute, or until well-chilled.
  • Fill a hurricane glass with 3/4 of big ice cubes.
  • Add the remaining 1 teaspoon of grenadine so it can sit at the bottom of the glass.
  • Slowly pour in the cocktail. This creates a lovely gradient-like cocktail.
  • Garnish the glass with a cocktail pick with a pineapple triangle, thin orange wheel and maraschino cherry.

For a punch:

  • In a big punch bowl, mix in the rum, fruit juices, grenadine, and nutmeg.
  • Do not add ice to the bowl or it will water it down, resulting in a bland cocktail. Instead, you can make ice cubes with pineapple juice. You can also just serve the ice in each glass and pour the rum punch on top.
  • Add slices of orange and lime to for a tropical touch.

Notes

  • The rum punch can be made in advance, but no longer than a couple of hours beforehand or the citrus juices start to taste a bit off. If preparing in advance, skip the ice until the very moment of serving.
  • To make the cocktail for a group of friends, instead of pouring ice in the punch bowl, add frozen orange slices and pineapple juice ice cubes. Regular ice cubes sitting in the bowl overtime will water down the punch.
  • You can create different variations using flavored rums like Malibu coconut rum or others like mango rum.
  • Large punch recipe makes about 72 fl oz (2 liters for around 14 guests).
