- 6 cup water
- 1/2-2/3 cup lime juice 1⁄2 cup will be a milder, sweeter limeade, while 2⁄3 cup will be a tangier drink. You can also adjust the amount of lime juice after tasting the finished limeade.
- ½ cup sugar
To make the simple syrup: In a small saucepan, combine 1 cup of water and 1/2 cup sugar. Heat over medium until the sugar fully dissolves. Remove from heat and let cool.
Roll the limes on the counter before cutting to release more juice. Squeeze until you have about 1/2 cup of fresh lime juice (for a sweet drink) or 2/3 cup of lime juice (for a tangier drink). Strain if you prefer pulp-free limeade.
Add in 1⁄2 cup of fresh lime juice and taste the mix. If you would like it to be tangier, stir in the rest of the lime juice.
In a large pitcher, combine the fresh lime juice, cooled simple syrup, and remaining 5 cups of cold water. Stir well. Taste and adjust sweetness if needed. Refrigerate for at least 30 minutes before serving over ice.
- Makes 1⁄2 gallon, or eight 8 oz. servings
- Since the average lime yields about 2 tablespoons of juice, you’ll need 5-6 limes to make 2⁄3 cups of juice.
