Equipment

  • Pitcher
  • Mesh strainer
  • Lemon juicer

Ingredients

  • 6 cup water
  • 1/2-2/3 cup lime juice 1⁄2 cup will be a milder, sweeter limeade, while 2⁄3 cup will be a tangier drink. You can also adjust the amount of lime juice after tasting the finished limeade.
  • ½ cup sugar

Instructions

  • To make the simple syrup: In a small saucepan, combine 1 cup of water and 1/2 cup sugar. Heat over medium until the sugar fully dissolves. Remove from heat and let cool.
  • Roll the limes on the counter before cutting to release more juice. Squeeze until you have about 1/2 cup of fresh lime juice (for a sweet drink) or 2/3 cup of lime juice (for a tangier drink). Strain if you prefer pulp-free limeade.
  • Add in 1⁄2 cup of fresh lime juice and taste the mix. If you would like it to be tangier, stir in the rest of the lime juice.
  • In a large pitcher, combine the fresh lime juice, cooled simple syrup, and remaining 5 cups of cold water. Stir well. Taste and adjust sweetness if needed. Refrigerate for at least 30 minutes before serving over ice.

Notes

  • Makes 1⁄2 gallon, or eight 8 oz. servings
  • Since the average lime yields about 2 tablespoons of juice, you’ll need 5-6 limes to make 2⁄3 cups of juice.
