How To Make DIY Pie Macarons

Combine a one drop of orange gel coloring and a half a drop of yellow food coloring into almond extract and stir.

Pour a little of that mixture into a separate bowl and add a bit more almond extract to the second bowl, and stir.

These two colors will be what you use for the “pumpkin pie” and the “pie crusts”. The one that has more almond extract than color will be used the pie crusts. And the more saturated color will be the center of the pumpkin.

Use a paint brush to pie the edges of the crust around the macaron.

Then, draw criss-cross lines for some of the macarons to look like braided pie crusts.

For the pumpkin, lemon, and key lime (!!), paint the edges of the crusts, and then use food pens to color the centers.

Maybe it seems obvious to me since we just got back from a trip to Key West (home of key lime pie). But I don’t know how many other flavors out there have a mint green connotation!
