DIY Color Dipped Clothes Hangers
DIY Color Dipped Clothes Hangers — Punch up your entry way coat rack with these custom DIY Color Dipped Clothes Hangers!
With it being “winter” here in Houston for the last month and a half, I’ve finally decided to create a cute designated space for our coats and bags that isn’t the middle of the meeting table and every chair back in the room.
We got this LEGIT brass clothes hanger from Avelere that was begging me for a pop of color. So I came up with these DIY Color Dipped Clothes Hangers.
Yes, I know. You’re now all wondering why I would randomly have clothes hanging from our studio coat rack.
Well my friends, I have to keep the mystery of the studio alive a little bit. Or you’ll have already seen everything by the time the studio launch party and tour rolls around!
Plus, a non-studioesque setting would be more relatable to most for everyday use anyways. Speaking of which, if you’re a household with lots of littles running around, color coded hangers might be the perfect weekend DIY for making everyone a designated foyer space!
Materials Needed To Make DIY Color Dipped Clothes Hangers
- Interior/exterior satin paint samples from the home improvement store
- Brass clothes hangers — Or rose gold hangers if you love pink!
- Brass coat rack — Only sort of optional because it’s awesome
The reason I used interior/exterior paint on the handles was so that it would withstand movement and wear and tear a bit better (in theory!), and is much much sturdier and thicker than craft paint when it dries.
How To Make DIY Color Dipped Clothes Hangers
You’ll want the paint to be thick so that it covers the metal well. So to do that I just dipped the handles straight in the paint.
Then, I held the hanger above it for about 30 seconds while most of the excess dripped back into the bucket.
To let them dry, I strung two wooden paint stirrers across two stacks of boxes with craft paper underneath, and just let them drip dry while hanging upside down.
You’ll want to make sure that no drips dry onto the handle. But instead, keep an eye on them to shake off any big globs so they don’t dry misshapen.
I made that mistake on accident!
Also, a quick thanks to our studio neighbor, Sandy for letting us permanently borrow a set of her brass hangers after we drove around for two hours hitting up every store we could think of to try and find some!
Seriously, they’re a hot commodity!
