What is a Martini?

A classic cocktail, the martini is made with a base of gin or vodka and vermouth (usually dry white vermouth). It can be amped up with a dash of bitters and garnished with a lemon peel (for a classic martini) or olive. Or you can get really creative and add in pickles for a non-traditional Pickle Martini.

What is Pink Gin?

Infused with strawberry, pink gin boasts a lovely pink color and is much sweeter and fruiter than the basic gin. It originated as a seasickness ailment for the British Royal Navy. You can mix up a lot of other fun and pretty drinks with it like a Pink Gin Spritz.

How to Make the Honey and Rose Simple Syrup

Simple syrup is essentially a form of liquid sugar that can be used for sweetening cocktails or any kind of drinks and to sweeten and moisten cakes. Of course, it is possible to buy ready-made. But since it’s one of the most affordable and easy to make ingredients, it makes perfect sense to make it at home.

Ingredients needed for the Honey and Rose Simple Syrup:

  • 1 cup honey
  • 3/4 cup water
  • 1/4 cup rose water
  • Dried rosebuds (organic and food-grade)

How to make the Honey and Rose Syrup:

1 — In a small bowl, heat the honey on low in the microwave for 10 seconds (or until it becomes runnier). Depending on the temperature of your kitchen, honey can be crystalized and more difficult to dissolve in water.

2 — In a small saucepan, stir the heated honey, water, rose water, and dried rosebuds and stir until completely dissolved.

3 — Once the mixture thickens and the color starts turning red, stop the cooking process and let it sit for a couple of minutes.

4 — Strain and store in an airtight container in the fridge.

When making this simple syrup, you can omit the rose water. However, the rose water enhances the rose aromas and flavors. Because the simply syrup needs to be chilled when making the cocktail, we recommend making it in advance.

Notes

This is a very sweet cocktail, so it’s best to be served either as a dessert cocktail or during Happy hour.
You can make it less sweet by omitting the honey and rose simple syrup, but in this case you might need to substitute it with rose water to maintain the flavor profile.
