Hunch Punch Recipe
Sweet and fruity, the Hunch Punch recipe is the go-to party drink for a reason. It’s easy to make and easy to please for a large crowd.
The Hunch Punch is an infamous college party drink.
And college drinks have a few points in common. They are quick to throw together, super easy to make, delicious and quite potent.
But we are going to class it up a bit with higher quality spirits, fresh fruits and a fancier presentation. So there’s no large cooler.
Serve it in a fancy punch bowl at an adult birthday party, girls night or a bachelorette party.
What Does the Hunch Punch Taste Like?
The Hunch Punch recipe can be considered a close relative to the Jungle Juice Punch. Both feature tropical flavors with vodka and rum spirits.
Both contain sliced fruits that get soaked up in all the alcohol goodness while releasing their own flavors into the cocktail.
The Hunch Punch is brightly colored from the orange juice, pineapple juice and fruit punch.
Ingredients Needed to Make a Hunch Punch
Vodka — Choose plain vodka to make the fruit juices shine. However, if you want to add to the fruitiness, mango vodka or peach vodka are also delicious options.
White rum — To amp up the alcohol content without outshining the fruit juices and fruit slices. You can swap it for coconut rum with just as excellent results.
Fruit punch — The original college recipe calls for Hawaiian Punch. But we highly recommend going for a store bought brand that contains fresh fruit like Simply Juice.
Orange juice — As always fresh is best, but bottled works just as fine.
Pineapple juice
Lemon-lime soda — For the fizz.
Orange, tangerine and grapefruit slices and wedges — For garnish.
Lots of ice cubes
Cocktail cherries — Optional to garnish the punch cups.
How to Make a Hunch Punch Cocktail
1 — In a punch bowl or drink dispenser, pour in the vodka, white rum, fruit punch, orange juice, pineapple juice and mix well.
2 — Add in the fruit and ice to the mixture and mix well.
3 — Top off with the lemon-lime soda. Serve in a punch cup with ice and garnish with a grapefruit wedge and cocktail cherry.
Recipe Notes and Tips
For a less potent drink or even a mocktail:
Adjust the vodka and rum to your liking. You’ll still get a delicious drink.
You can even completely omit all the alcohol. This will not affect the final flavor, since vodka and white rum have very mild flavors.
For a chilled cocktail:
Chill all the ingredients for at least 12 hours beforehand.
To avoid the punch from watering down:
Cut the fruits and freeze them. Then, you can also serve as your ice cubes.
If you don’t want to use lemon-lime soda:
Opt for orange soda, ginger ale or even champagne. Do not worry about the soda losing its fizz, you can leave a bottle close to the punch so each guest can top up their glass with some more soda.
