Watermelon Papaya Rum Smoothie Cocktail
Our vibrant Watermelon Papaya Rum Smoothie, a frozen, fruity, and lightly boozy blend that’s as refreshing as it is nutritious. Packed with watermelon, papaya, coconut milk, citrus, and a splash of white rum, this smoothie is the ultimate tropical escape in a glass.

When the weather heats up, we’re all about drinks that taste like a tropical vacation. And this Watermelon Papaya Rum Smoothie is exactly that. It’s light, fruity, and packed with hydrating ingredients like fresh watermelon and papaya, which are not only delicious but loaded with vitamins A and C. Plus, a splash of white rum turns this frozen smoothie into a fun, adult-friendly treat you’ll want to sip all summer long.
I, Ashley love that it feels indulgent but is actually on the healthier side. No added refined sugar, just natural sweetness from fruit and a touch of agave. Coconut milk adds a creamy texture and a hint of island flavor, making each sip smooth and refreshing. Whether you’re lounging by the pool, hosting a backyard hangout, or just craving something cold and boozy, this recipe blends together in minutes and tastes like pure sunshine in a glass.
Best of all? This frozen boozy smoothie is super easy to customize and even kid-friendly (just skip the rum!).

Ingredients Needed
- Frozen watermelon cubes: Naturally sweet and hydrating
- Coconut milk: Most smoothies call for yogurt, but we wanted to create a healthy rum cocktail that is dairy free. Coconut milk not only gives the smoothie a creamy texture but also adds a tropical note that pairs so well with the papaya. We used canned coconut milk for a thicker constancy. If you prefer a lighter, more drinkable version, swap in refrigerated coconut milk.
- Fresh pineapple: Adds brightness and tropical acidity
- Orange juice: Adds a citrusy zing
- Frozen papaya: For a tropical, smooth base
- Agave syrup: Adjust to taste for sweetness
- White rum
- Salt: Enhances the overall flavor
- Pineapple wedges, sliced limes, and mint: Optional for garnish

How to Make a Watermelon Papaya Rum Smoothie
1 — Add all ingredients (watermelon, papaya, pineapple, coconut milk, orange juice, agave syrup, salt, and white rum) to a high-speed blender.
2 — Blend until completely smooth. Serve immediately in chilled glasses.
3 — Optional: Garnish with fresh pineapple, lime slices, and mint for a festive finish!

What Fruit Goes Well with Watermelon
There are plenty of other fruits that pair well with watermelons to make a juicy, flavorful watermelon smoothie cocktail.
- Strawberries and honeydews match amazingly with watermelons — just be sure not to overdo it on the sweetness. It’s clear from our Coconut & Strawberry Raspberry Frozen Daiquiri that strawberries go with anything!
- Oranges, mangos, and pineapples all go great in watermelon smoothies while adding a slightly different flavor profile.
- And if you like your watermelon mixed with something tart, kiwis are the perfect companion!
With so many fruits that pair well with watermelons, you can whip up an unbeatable watermelon smoothie cocktail for any occasion. It’s so easy to sit back and close your eyes while drinking one of these spiked smoothies and feel like you are in a tropical local. ”Tulum” here I come!

Recipe Notes and Tips
- For a non-alcoholic version: Simply skip the rum and enjoy it as a vibrant smoothie!
- Freeze your watermelon and papaya ahead of time: Using frozen fruit helps create a thick, frosty smoothie without watering it down with too much ice. Just cube and freeze ripe watermelon and papaya on a baking sheet. Then, transfer to a freezer-safe bag.
- Freeze the coconut milk: To also keep this concoction frozen longer without getting watered down, freeze the coconut milk in an ice cube tray.
- Adjust the sweetness: Depending on how ripe your fruit is, you might not need much agave syrup. Always taste before adding more sweetener.
- Rum swap: While white rum keeps it light and tropical, you can try spiced rum or even coconut rum for a twist. Or skip it entirely for a refreshing mocktail version.
- Make it ahead: You can blend the smoothie without ice and store it in the fridge for a few hours. Just give it a quick stir or re-blend before serving.
- Amp up the citrus: Add a splash of lime juice or zest if you like a little tang to balance the sweetness.
- Fun serving idea: Pour the smoothie into popsicle molds for a frozen tropical treat, perfect for hot days or party-ready desserts.
