Classic Coca-Cola Cupcakes Recipe
Easy and delicious Coca-Cola cupcakes with a moist chocolate base and fizzy frosting, perfect for parties, holidays, and soda-inspired dessert lovers!

These Coca-Cola Cupcakes are a playful spin on classic chocolate cupcakes, made extra special with real Coca-Cola mixed right into the batter and frosting. The soda adds a subtle caramel-like sweetness and helps create a soft, moist texture that makes each bite irresistible.
They’re easy to make, crowd-pleasing, and just a little unexpected, making them a great choice when you want a dessert that stands out without requiring complicated techniques or ingredients. We styled them red and white striped cupcake liners and mini straws to resemble the classic soda.
Serve them topped with fluffy Coca-Cola frosting for a dessert that’s guaranteed to spark conversation and disappear fast. Perfect for parties, birthdays, game days, or casual family gatherings, these cupcakes feel both fun and familiar.

Ingredients You’ll Need
For the cupcakes:
- Coca-Cola soda: Use regular, not diet. The sugar in regular Coca-Cola is essential for both flavor and texture. Diet or zero-sugar sodas will not produce the same moist crumb or balanced sweetness.
- All-purpose flour: For light, fluffy cupcakes, spoon the flour into your measuring cup and level it off rather than scooping directly from the bag. Too much flour can make the cupcakes dense.
- Baking soda
- Dark unsweetened cocoa powder
- Granulated sugar: We did not use as much sugar as a typical cupcake recipe calls see we used a lot of buttercream frosting for the soda presentation. If you’re going light on the frosting, then you can add an additional 1/2 cup of sugar.
- Brown sugar
- Salted butter: Melted
- Eggs
- Salt
For the frosting:
- Confectioners’ sugar: Also known as icing sugar or powdered sugar
- Salted butter: at room temperature
- Heavy cream
- Vanilla bean paste
- White sprinkles: in varying sizes

How to Make Coca-Cola Cupcakes
1 — Preheat your oven to 325°F and and line a cupcake pan with liners.
2 — Mix in the melted butter, Coca-Cola, cocoa powder, and sugar until smooth and well combined. Add in the eggs until lightly beaten.

3 — In a separate bowl, whisk together the flour, baking soda, and salt.
5 — Gradually add the dry ingredients to the wet Coca-Cola mixture, mixing until just combined and smooth.
6 — Divide the batter evenly among the cupcake liners, filling each about 2/3 full.

7 — Bake for 16–20 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean. Remove from the oven and allow the cupcakes to cool completely before frosting.

How to Make Fizzy Buttercream Icing
Add all frosting ingredients (confectioner’s sugar, salted butter, heavy cream and vanilla bean paste) to a stand mixer or mixing bowl. Beat on medium-high speed until the icing is light, fluffy, and smooth.

Decorating the Soda Cupcakes
1 — Pipe the buttercream onto the cooled cupcakes.
2 — Gently roll or dip the freshly frosted cupcakes into a mix of small and large white sprinkles to create a bubbly, soda-inspired look.

3 — Finish by decorating as desired with additional sprinkles and a mini straw for a fun Coca-Cola float effect.

Recipe Notes & Tips
- Don’t overmix the batter: Once the dry ingredients are added to the wet ingredients, mix just until combined. Overmixing can lead to tough or dry cupcakes.
- Adjust frosting consistency as needed: If the buttercream feels too thick, add a small splash of Coca-Cola. If it’s too soft, mix in a little powdered sugar until it reaches a pipeable consistency.
- Roll immediately in sprinkles: The frosting should be freshly piped so the sprinkles adhere easily and create that bubbly, fizzy soda effect.
- Make ahead: The cupcakes can be baked a day in advance and stored unfrosted in an airtight container at room temperature. Frost just before serving for best presentation.
- Storage: Frosted cupcakes can be stored in an airtight container at room temperature for up to 2 days, or refrigerated for up to 4 days. Bring to room temperature before serving.
- Freezing: Unfrosted cupcakes freeze well for up to 2 months. Thaw completely before decorating.
