What Is Apple Cider Vinegar?

It is simply what the name states — just vinegar made from apples! It’s mainly composed of apple juice with added yeast that turns the sugar into alcohol. This fermentation process is what gives the vinegar a strong sour taste.

Apple cider vinegar is used for cooking, baking, salad dressings, preservatives, drink recipes and cleaning. Just don’t drink the vinegar straight up because all the acid can cause your tooth enamel to erode!

Health Benefits To Drinking Apple Cider Vinegar

For centuries, apple cider vinegar (ACV) has been used to for weight loss, as a detox and to improve heart health. Daily consumption of ACV with lemon juice and hot water is said to help with indigestion.

Organic unfiltered apple cider vinegars also contain “mother”. Mother are the cloudy yeast proteins and enzymes that are side to provide the benefits of apple cider. So the murkier the apple cider drink, the better!

Can you believe that apple cider is also for cleaning and disinfecting?!? It can also treat nail fungus, lice, warts and ear infections!

How to Make the Best Apple Cider Drink Recipe

To make a chilled punch, combine all ingredients into a pitcher and stir.

For a warm spiced version, combine all ingredients (with the exception of the dark rum) into a pan and warm the mixture to medium heat.

Once warm, reduce the heat to low. Then, add in the dark rum.

Garnish with half a cinnamon stick and apple slice. This drink serves 8-10 people.

How to Garnish an Apple Cider Drink

The best way to customize any drink is with garnishes. They not only serve as “decors” for your beverages, but also are a fun way to add flavor.

We garnished each glass with an apple slice and half a cinnamon stick. This simple stick topper also adds kick of spiciness.

If you wanna have some fun with apple cider, try a few of these ingredients below. Throw them all in each glass, throw them into a pitcher or onto cocktail picks.

  • Cherries
  • Lemon slices
  • Orange slices
  • Star anise
  • Thyme sprig
  • A dash of cayenne pepper (for extra spice)
  • White sugar to rim each glass

Make an Apple Cider Drink Ahead Of Time

You can make this ahead of time, which is why it’s so party-friendly.

Plus, if you’re making a punch version, it is ideal to make it beforehand. Just chill the drink in the fridge for at least an hour.

If you want to serve it warm, cook all the ingredients (minus the rum) in a slow cooker on low heat for two to four hours. Add a shot of rum to each glass before serving.

How to Store Apple Cider Drink

For the mocktail, store the beverage in an airtight container in the fridge for up to 5 days. The apple cider cocktail can also be stored in the fridge for up to 5 days.

However, as with mixed drinks, we recommend consuming them when they’re freshly prepared. This way, you don’t lose out on the flavor or alcohol content.
