The Lava Flow is the ultimate frozen tropical cocktail featuring light rums, coconut, pineapple and strawberry.

best Lava flow cocktail

The Lava Flow is a refreshing and rich cocktail full of tropical flavors of coconut, pineapple, and a swirl of strawberry to finish up this deliciously addictive drink.

With every sip, we guarantee that you’ll get transported to a Hawaiian resort where it’s (with good reasons) a bar favorite. The Lava Flow is a cross between a Piña Colada and Miami Vice. It gets its name because it looks like lava flowing from a volcano.

How to Create the Swirl Effect?

This tropical drink is equally delicious as it is visually pleasing. To achieve the swirl effect, all you need to do is pour the red rum strawberry mixture on top of the white pineapple coconut base. Next, stir the drink with a straw to create some “lava flow” movements, and there you have it!

Recipe Notes and Tips

  • Because this is a frozen drink, this cocktail is best served immediately. Once it melts, it’s just not the same.
  • Using fresh fruit is always best for any recipe. However, since this is a frozen drink, opting for frozen fruit is fine as it will give the tropical drink a slushy texture.
  • To make a virgin version, skip the alcohol and replace it with milk or coconut water. The kids will love it!
