How to Make a Pumpkin Spice Simple Syrup

Though it’s not commonly found in most Pumpkin Spice White cocktail recipes, the syrup adds a depth of flavor and aroma that complements the creamy and coffee elements of a White Russian.

You could omit it out completely and simply add a teaspoon of pumpkin spice to the cocktail shaker. However, the infused simple syrup brings additional sweetness that will evenly distribute into the cocktail especially since it’s a cold drink.

A couple of ounces go a long way so you’ll have extra to drizzle over your morning coffee!

Ingredients needed:

  • Equal parts water — The base of any simple syrup.
  • Equal parts sugar —  Either white or brown sugar will do. If using brown sugar you’ll obtain a darker syrup with also the added touch of molasses into the flavor.
  • Pumpkin spice

Instructions:

1 — In a small saucepan, combine the water, sugar and pumpkin pie spice. Bring to a boil, and stir continuously until the sugar has completely dissolved.

3 — Allow the syrup to cool completely before transferring it to a clean, airtight container.

Store it in the refrigerator for up to 1 month. Two cups of this infused syrup will make about 10-12 Spiced White Russians.

Recipe Notes and Tips

  • What if I can’t find pumpkin spice creamer? If you don’t have pumpkin spice creamer, you can create your own by combining regular creamer with a pinch of pumpkin spice seasoning or a drop of pumpkin spice extract. Or you can sub it out for heavy cream.
  • Chill your glasses beforehand: As with all cold cocktails, chilling your glass beforehand will allow your drink to keep longer.
  • The mixing technique: Mixing the ingredients separately is purely for presentation. The swirl of pumpkin spice cream gets mixed with the Vodka and Kahlua base to create an ombré effect. However, if presentation is not a concern, you can combine all the ingredients together.

    1. Hi Bruce! Great question. The recipe card has been updated. You’ll need 1 1/2 ounce or pumpkin spice creamer (or you can use heavy cream).
