Our Home Office Design Makeover Reveal
We’re so excited to share the final reveal for our office design makeover giveaway! The before and afters are pretty phenomenal.
We think we can all agree that having a great office space makes a huge difference. Whether you work from home or commute, having a bright and open office or work environment really changes your mood.
When we first announced our office makeover giveaway in partnership with PicMonkey, we were immediately drawn to Bobbie’s home office.
Since it was a wide-open space, we felt like it would be a great blank canvas with some paint and pops of color! And honestly, a good code of paint alone did wonders in this room.
It also didn’t hurt they she was VERY trusting. She let us just roll with whatever open plan that we wanted to, which is the ideal client!
Home Office Design Makeover Color Palette
When it came to rethinking this office design, we knew that we wanted to start with a solid color palette. Bobbie (see below of a photo of her and I before the transformation!) is a writer and was totally open to adding color to the dark wood paneling.
This home office is just off of the entrance to her home. So we wanted it to be fun without being too overwhelming. We presented her with a few final color choices for the walls and together we landed on the color Moon Glass by Behr.
Simply just freshening up the room with a coat of paint is an easy home office idea transformation. Using that color as the base, we designed the custom statement artwork in Picmonkey to be the focal point of the room.
How to Make Custom Office Decor With PicMonkey
To make the office design wall art, I measured in between the wall panels to determine how big I wanted the custom art to be.
From there, I created a new blank template for custom sizing in PicMonkey. I played around with the brush streaks from their pre-uploaded graphics options.
All I had to do was drag and drop shapes into place and select their colors. You can also easily use their premade artwork templates to just download and print.
Plus they offer about a million ways to make collages of your own family photos and kids art.
I debated back and forth on making two similar line art drawings. Ultimately I landed on one line drawing and abstract print to pair with it.
Once I finished my designs, I exported high resolutions version from my PicMonkey hub and we had them printed and framed. Easy peasy!
You can get the Picmonkey seven day trial for free any time to try out, and you can get a yearly standard membership for $60 through our Sugar & Cloth discounted code right here!
We have the pro account ($100 yearly through our discount code here) that allows us to do team sharing so that other employees can access the same templates and designs remotely by logging into our Picmonkey hub.

Office Design Furniture
Rather than having a traditional desk pushed against the wall, I opted for a statement table by using this dark wood dining table from At Home.
I also only chose to have two teal chairs so it didn’t feel like a dining room more than a home office design. It also doubles as a meeting space or meeting room should she need one.
The ivory rug is the same style rug that I used in our guest bedroom. It’s such a steal for the price and size, and really helps to brighten up a room!
Needless to say, this Mitzi Alyssa chandelier from Hudson Valley Lighting is a real showstopper! I think I shed a happy tear when I saw it officially installed.
So beautiful with the floral details, don’t you think?!
I also wanted to prioritize adding closed storage to this room. I love a good open shelf but still like to keep the ugly office things hidden.
This also allowed me to create “work zones” within the room. Like this woven bar cabinet from At Home and seating corner on the opposite side of the room.
This scalloped pink chair was TOO cute to pass up, plus it brought more color to this corner of the room. It’s definitely a major upgrade from the usual corporate office lounge chairs, ha!
For wall art in this corner, I framed pieces of her children’s artwork in metallic gold float frames.
Since this office design has glass french doors, I added plain white curtains for a more private space from the kids and glass walls.
Ikea Hack | Faux Built In Storage
For more hidden storage, we used Ikea Besta cabinets with the Ikea Forbattra toe-kick to create the look of built-in cabinetry on a budget. This is such an easy Ikea Besta hack that can be used in any room.
It offers plenty of concealed storage without feeling like your typical filing cabinet workplace design.
To display the prettier office items, I used gold brackets and inexpensive wall shelves on either side of the statement PicMonkey artwork.
I used a whole slew of pretty home accents from At Home for styling the shelves, cabinet, and tabletops. Even down to the wood and gold table lamps and lampshades.
More Home Makeovers and Office Design Ideas
I absolutely love how bright and airy this room feels now! I’d say this is a major quality of life upgrade when it comes to working from home, don’t you think?!
