Do You Need to Heat-Treat the Flour?

Heat-treating is process of heating flour to kill the bacterias. This process is typically done when making edible cookie dough. Because our recipe does not call for any raw eggs, we did not heat treat the flour. However, to ensure safety and extra step for safe measures when consuming raw flour, you can heat-treat it. Heat-treating flour in the microwave is the easiest method.

How to heat-treat flour in the microwave:

1 — Place flour in a microwave-safe bowl.

2 — Microwave in 30-second intervals, stirring between each, until the flour reaches 165°F throughout. Make sure none of the ingredients have harden or burnt. This can quickly happen with flour.

How to Make Frozen Chocolate Chip Cookie Dough Sundaes

1 — Mix the dough: In a large bowl, cream together the softened butter and brown sugar until smooth. Aim for a light and fluffy texture by beating for about 2 minutes. When fully blended, add vanilla extract and water, mixing until combined. Gradually add the flour, mixing until a dough forms. Fold in the mini chocolate chips.

At this point, it might look crumbly. If this is the case, mix and mold the dough mixture with your hands to make it less crumbly. If it still doesn’t gel together, add a little bit of water.

3 — Shape and freeze: Press the cookie dough into a silicone ice cube tray, smoothing the tops. Freeze for at least 2 hours, or until solid.

4 — Assemble the sundaes: Pop out the frozen cookie dough cubes and place them in serving dishes. Drizzle with Chocolate Magic Shell, allowing it to harden into a decadent chocolate coating, a delightful textural contrast to the creamy ice cream and chewy cookie dough.

5 — Optional: Garnish: Top with whipped cream and a cherry.

Recipe Notes and Tips

  • Crumbly mix: If the cookie dough mix looks crumbly, mix and mold the dough mixture with your hands. If it still doesn’t gel together, add a little bit of water.
  • If your brown sugar is clumpy: Break it up with a fork before creaming it with the butter. This will help it incorporate smoothly.
  • Avoid over-mixing: Overworking the dough can make the cookie dough tough when frozen. Mix until there are no streaks of flour remaining.
  • Want to get extra fancy?: Add chopped nuts, sprinkles, or a drizzle of caramel sauce for an over-the-top sundae experience!
  • Instead of using an ice tray: You can also mold your sundae into a ball with an ice cream scooper or your hands.
  • Serving size: Adjust the size of your cookie dough cubes based on preference.
  • Storage: Keep extra frozen cookie dough cubes in an airtight container in the freezer for up to one month.
