Before you decline this wild offer, keep reading!

The Duck Fart Shot is a surprisingly good shot invented in Alaska during the 80s.

In fact, it’s a super funny-named shot that is perfect to make for a friends gathering and have everyone around laughing for a good minute or two.

What Does it Taste Like? And Why the Name?

The Duck Fart Shot is a layered drink of coffee liqueur, Irish cream liqueur, and whiskey.

It’s a sweet, creamy and potent shot, similar in taste and texture to a Rumchata Martini, Bushwacker, and Brandy Alexander.

It’s also a variation of another well-known shot, the B-52, which also has a layer of coffee liqueur and Irish cream liqueur.

But instead of whiskey, the B-52 shot has a Grand Marnier Orange Liqueur layer.

Chug down a few after a full meal or as a treat in itself… because why not?

The story behind the name of this shot is a bit unclear, but it is said to be invented in Alaska.

And although nowadays these shots are widely presented in their layered form, in Alaska, they mix it up a bit.

So then that cloudy mix looks like ahem…well, like duck crap…

What Ingredients Do You Need to Make the Duck Fart Shot?

Coffee liqueur — Kahlua Coffee Liqueur is most commonly used.

Irish cream liqueur — Baileys Irish Cream Liqueur is most commonly used.

Whiskey — We recommend Crown Royal Canadian Whiskey.

Of course, you could use any other brands of liqueurs for your shot, but these are the original chosen ones.

Useful Equipment to Make the Duck Fart Shot

Shot glass — A long 2 oz shot glass if possible.

Bar spoon or any spoon — To achieve the layered effect.

Jigger — To measure the pour of each liquid.

Yes, no need to use a cocktail shaker or anything else!

How to Get the Perfect Layering Look

It looks way more complicated than it really is, we promise.

To achieve this look, use the bar spoon method.

Slowly pour your first layer.

Then, place the back of the spoon as close to the glass rim and the first layer as possible.

Pour the second layer slowly over the back of the spoon.

This method prevents the two liqueurs or layers from mixing, allowing the second layer to sit slowly on top of the first one and so on.

This is a staple mixology technique for other layered drinks like the Buttery Nipple.

Keep in mind that some liquids get mixed easier than others, depending on their density.

The first few times, you might struggle a bit to get super clean layers.

But with practice, it gets better.

How to Make the Duck Fart Shot

1 — Add in the Kahlua to the shot glass as the base layer.

2 — Slowly add in the Baileys Irish Cream by slowly pouring it over the back of a spoon, placed close to the glass rim.

3 — Repeat the final layer with Crown Royal.

Recipe Notes and Tips

How to drink the shot:

Shoot the shot down all at once so that you get all the flavors mixed in your mouth.

To turn it into a Duck Fart Drink:

If the layering method is too complicated for you or you can’t be bothered, you can also mix it in the cocktail shaker and serve it mixed in each glass.

Just double your measurements.

Layering whiskey:

The first and second layers are very easy to make.

The most complicated one to get clean and crisp is the final Crown Royal layer.

The whiskey tends to get mixed with the Baileys layer very easily, which is why it is the top layer.

To help you get a cleaner layer, try pouring the whiskey as slowly as possible.
