What is Rumchata? Is It the Same as Baileys?

Rumchata is a “distant” cousin of Baileys. It is similar but not the same.

Rumchata is a cream liqueur made with a base of Caribbean rum with cinnamon and vanilla notes.

Baileys also has a creamy consistency but is made with Irish whiskey. And it does not have the final cinnamon kick to it.

Ironically, Rumchata’s bottle states the quote “Horchata con Ron”. However, it doesn’t actually contain any horchata and is only inspired by the Spanish and Mexican horchata drinks.

And being that it is a rum, it surprisingly does not originate from the Caribbean or Mexico but was invented in Wisconsin by a man named Tom Maas.

Does the Rumchata Martini Have Anything in Common With the Classic Martini Drink or the Martini Brand of Vermouth?

No, the Rumchata Martini has the “martini” surname because it is served in the classic martini glass!

But aside from this, it doesn’t contain any Martini Vermouth or have anything in common with the classic Martini cocktail.

It tastes similar to a cross between snickerdoodle and horchata so it pairs well with snickerdoodle cookies, cinnamon sugar donuts or cinnamon churros with chocolate chili sauce.
