Why is it Called a “Press”?

In cocktail terms, a “press” is a drink that contains equal parts of two types of soda water. The combination is typically lemon lime and club soda, ginger ale and club soda, or even tonic water and club soda.

The classic Vodka Press calls for the lemon-lime and club soda combo with vodka as the main liquor.

Its name and origins also comes from another cocktail called “Presbyterian”, which is made with whiskey, ginger ale and club soda.

Recipe Notes and Tips

Do you need a cocktail shaker?

No, you can simply pour and mix the ingredients directly in a tall highball glass. However, we prefer the cocktail shaker to even mix the vodka and lemon-lime soda.

The club soda is always the last ingredient so that you don’t lose the fun fizz.

Smack your mint:

If a cocktail recipe calls for a mint garnish, we highly recommend always smacking the sprigs beforehand. Gently place the mint between the palms of your hands and smack or slap it.

This process helps release the essential oils and aromas of the mint. Most citrus cocktails like a Mint Meyer Lemonade or Martini Royale always call for mint.

How to make the cocktail recipe more low-calorie:

Swap out the regular soda for diet soda. If you are looking for more low calorie cocktails, check out our guilt-free Spicy Skinny Margarita. As always, have fun with your sodas. You’ll find that a popular favorite is using cranberry soda.
