Ingredients & Tools Needed
- Box cake mix — About 15.25 ounces of any flavor you like. Or use your favorite homemade cake mix.
- Necessary ingredients listed on your cake box mix — Typical add-ons usually call for water (or milk for a richer flavor), vegetable oil, and egg(s).
- Choice of icing
- Sprinkles
- Mixing bowls
- Waffle maker
How to Make Mini Waffle Cakes
1 — Preheat your waffle iron. Lightly grease the waffle plates with non-stick cooking spray.
2 — In a large bowl, prepare the cake batter with the additional needed ingredients according to the box’s instructions.
3 — Pour the batter into the warmed waffle maker. Cook according to your waffle iron’s instructions, typically 3-5 minutes, or until golden brown and cooked through to hold its shape.
4 — Remove the cooked waffle. Cook the remaining batter.
5 — In a small bowl, microwave your icing for 10 seconds. Then, drizzle the melted icing over the waffle cake.
6 — Give it a little umph with a dash of sprinkles, and you’re all set!
Recipe Notes and Tips
- Don’t overfill your waffle iron: This can lead to messy overflow and uneven cooking.
- If your batter seems too thick: Add a bit more water or milk, one tablespoon at a time, until it reaches a pourable consistency.
- Experiment with different flavors: Try using chocolate, spice cake, or even lemon cake mix for a variety of delicious mini waffle cakes.
- Get creative with toppings: Drizzle your mini waffles with syrup, melted chocolate, caramel sauce, or whipped cream. You can also add fresh fruit slices, chopped nuts, or sprinkles for extra flavor and texture.
- Storage: Leftover mini waffles can be stored in an airtight container at room temperature for up to 2 days. Reheat them in a toaster oven or microwave for a few seconds to warm them up before serving.
