Statement DIY Pom Pom Scarf
Create a cozy and stylish Statement DIY Pom Pom Scarf by simply adding colorful pom poms to a basic scarf. Perfect for the cold weather and bundling up this winter.
Pom poms have definitely taken over here. So when we started planning our winter projects, it was hard not to go overboard with our favorite little fluffy embellishments. They’ve been popping up all over our favorite online shops.
And have you seen all our pom pom projects that we’ve conquered like our slippers, wall hanging, basket, tree topper, beach bag, blanket, luggage tag, and placemats?!? So we couldn’t resist putting our own spin on it with a Statement DIY Pom Pom Scarf! Yes, we know. We have an addiction.
We’re thrilled with how the scarf turned out, especially with our carefully chosen color scheme. It’s a fun and easy way to add a personalized touch to a basic scarf, making it the perfect statement piece for the season. Get ready—this is just the start of our yarn-inspired projects, and there’s plenty more to come in the next few weeks!
Materials and Tools Needed
- Chunky tight knit scarf — We also love the idea of freshening up a knit wrap.
- Pom poms — We used a pom pom maker to make ours so that we can make various sizes and colors! But you can also purchase pre-made ones here or here.
- Extra yarn — Choose any color that fits your style.
- Scissors
- Yarn needle
- Fabric glue — Optional for extra security for the pom poms.
How To Make DIY Pom Pom Scarf
1 — Prepare your pom poms: First, make your pom poms using a pom pom maker or use pre-made ones if you prefer. Lay your scarf out flat and arrange the pom poms intermittently along the scarf to get a feel for the layout
2 — Glue the pom poms: Once you’re happy with the placement, use fabric glue to secure each pom pom to the scarf. Follow the manufacturer’s instructions for drying time.
3 — Sew for extra security: After the glue has dried, take a yarn needle and a piece of yarn to sew each pom pom in place. Since pom poms can be a bit heavy, sewing them adds extra security to make sure they stay put.
Once everything is securely in place, your DIY Pom Pom Scarf is ready to make a bold and cozy statement!
Project Notes and Tips
- Pom Pom Size Variety: Experiment with different pom pom sizes to create a playful and dynamic look. Larger pom poms can be placed at the ends of the scarf, while smaller ones can fill in the middle for balance.
- Color Coordination: If you’re going for a specific theme or color scheme, make sure to choose yarn colors that complement each other. Consider using neutral tones for a subtle look or bright, contrasting colors for a bold statement.
- Scarf Choice: While a chunky tight-knit scarf works best for this project, you can also use a thinner scarf or a knit wrap to achieve a more delicate look. Just make sure the pom poms are securely attached to avoid them pulling on a looser fabric.
- Personalization: Don’t be afraid to get creative! You can add multiple rows of pom poms, mix in other embellishments like beads, or even add a fringe to the ends of your scarf for extra flair.
